Choral Scholarships
Information and Guidance for Choral Scholars
The process for awarding scholarships for 2016/17 has concluded. They will reopen in August 2017 for the duration of the choir’s activities from September 2017 to 31 March 2018. Scholars appointed this year will be eligible for reappointment the following year.
You are expected to participate in all the choir’s rehearsals and concerts. Rehearsals start on at the end of September, and there will be 10 weekly rehearsals on Tuesday evenings (from 7.15pm to 9.30pm) before the Christmas concert in early December, and another 10 rehearsals before the Annual Concert to be held in mid-March. There may be one or two other events during the season. If you are unable to attend any rehearsal or concert, please inform your mentor or the President (Mr Archibald) in advance.
You will be paid a fee of £12.50 for each attendance at a rehearsal and concert. This will be paid to you each time in cash, and you will be asked to sign a receipt. You may use this fee for anything you wish, but the Society hopes that you will use the fee to help meet the cost of singing lessons with a teacher of your own choice.
Weekly rehearsals normally take place in Coastline Community Church on Tuesday evenings, but the venue may change from time to time. All members of the choir are told in advance when there is a change.
You will be provided with music. The Society normally has to hire copies of the music, and they must be returned in good condition. Please look after your music and make sure you return it on time. You should bring a pencil with you to each rehearsal to mark your music with the Musical Director’s instructions. These markings have to rubbed out before you return your music.
The Society has a child protection policy which is applicable to scholars aged 16 and under. Parents of successful applicants will receive a copy of this policy and will be asked to sign 2 permission mandates which are associated with the policy. The Society has appointed a Child Protection Officer and a Deputy to deal with any matters which arise and to ensure the policy is operating correctly.
A mentor will be appointed from among the members of the choir to help you to settle in and to look after you.
Applications are welcome from those in high school, further education or university. Please download and submit the application form below.
DATE FOR AUDITIONS: to be confirmed
Further details for applicants are available to download below. If you have any questions, our President, Raeburn Archibald would be delighted to hear from you. You can contact him by email.
